Introduction
Whether you’re starting a business, working as a freelancer, or simply need to fulfill your tax obligations, registering for a National Tax Number (NTN) is your first step. In Pakistan, having an NTN is mandatory for all individuals and companies who are liable to pay taxes under the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

What is an NTN (National Tax Number)?
The National Tax Number (NTN) is issued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). It’s a unique ID used for tax filing, opening bank accounts for businesses, and legal compliance.
- For individuals: Your CNIC becomes your NTN.
- For businesses: You get a separate NTN for your company or partnership.

You need an NTN if you are:
1. A salaried person earning taxable income
2. A business owner or self-employed professional
3. A company or partnership firm
4. A property owner earning rental income
5. An importer/exporter or filer for government contracts
